Justin Favela: Capilla de Maíz (Maize Chapel)

Justin Favela is a multidisciplinary artist of Guatemalan and Mexican heritage based in Las Vegas, Nevada. His mixed-media practice incorporates traditional Mexican and Latin American craft—specifically cartonería or piñata making—into large-scale sculptures and installations that merge art history with pop culture. Favela draws from diverse sources and symbols, creating works that bridge cultural traditions with contemporary visual language. In Capilla de Maíz, he synthesizes historical references, agricultural symbolism, and craft techniques to create immersive environments that explore identity, heritage, and material culture.
