Minty: A Story of Young Harriet Tubman

Jerry Pinkney (1939–2021) was an internationally renowned illustrator and master watercolorist whose career spanned over five decades. Working primarily in watercolor, Pinkney created illustrations for more than 100 books, earning widespread acclaim for his ability to blend historical accuracy with emotional depth. His practice involved meticulous research and collaboration with historians and cultural institutions to ensure authentic representation. For *Minty*, Pinkney consulted extensively with National Park Service curators and staff at the Banneker-Douglass Museum in Maryland, combining his technical mastery of watercolor with scholarly rigor to bring Harriet Tubman's early life to vivid, human-centered illustration.
