About
Communication Arts' annual Illustration Competition, now in its 68th year, is judged by an international jury of designers, art directors and illustrators. Winning work is published in the Communication Arts Illustration Annual in print and digital editions and on commarts.com, with an index giving each illustrator's contact details to art directors and buyers. Winners also receive a personalized aluminum Award of Excellence and certificates; there is no cash prize. Categories cover advertising, books, editorial, for-sale work, institutional, motion and animation, self-promotion, unpublished personal work and student assignments, with single pieces or series of up to five. Only accepted entrants are notified, within two months of the deadline.
Eligibility
Any illustration first published or produced from January 2026 through January 2027 is eligible, from any country; unpublished personal work and student assignments have their own categories. AI text-to-image generated work is not accepted.
Applications happen on Communication Arts's website. Seeke reviews and indexes the listing but does not accept applications.
