VMFA Visual Arts Fellowships 2027–28
the opportunity
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, which has given more than $6.5 million in fellowships since 1940, funds Virginia artists and art students. Professional fellowships are $8,000, for individuals or established collaborative groups; graduate fellowships are $6,000 and undergraduate fellowships $4,000, with half-year awards for students graduating in December 2027. The fellowship period runs May 2027 to May 2028. Applicants choose their category by their student status during that period and apply online with work samples. Applications close at 5pm; applicants are notified by the third week of February 2027.
eligibility
Legal residents of Virginia for the fellowship period. The Professional category is for artists not enrolled full-time in a degree program from May 2027 to May 2028. Student categories require full-time enrollment at an accredited school for the 2027–28 academic year; graduating high school seniors may apply as undergraduates.
