Framed: Shadow and Light
the opportunity
A juried group photography exhibition at Black Box Gallery in Portland, Oregon, November 1–25, 2026, on shadow and light as the substance of photography, from dramatic black-and-white patterns to moody color textures. Juror Todd Johnson, the gallery's founder and director (MFA, San Francisco Art Institute; portfolio reviewer for Photolucida, Critical Mass, and Blue Sky Gallery), selects 26 photographs for the gallery and 50 more for the online annex; all 76 go into a catalog sold through Blurb. Black Box prints, mats, and frames every gallery selection at no cost from the photographer's high-resolution file, using Epson Premium Luster paper in 18-by-24-inch black frames, and keeps the exhibition print in its flat files for two years of promotion. Sales, if the photographer chooses to sell, are split 50/50 and require the photographer's consent for each print. Entry is by PayPal payment and an email with five images; notification comes 7–10 days after the deadline.
eligibility
Open to all photographers worldwide, amateur and professional. Selected photographers supply a high-resolution TIFF or JPEG for printing; the print does not have to be for sale.
