MacDowell Fellowship — Fall 2027 / Winter 2028 Season
the opportunity
A MacDowell Fellowship is a residency of up to eight weeks with exclusive use of a studio, accommodations, and three prepared meals a day, for residencies between September 1, 2027 and February 29, 2028. There are no residency fees, and MacDowell reimburses direct travel and can offer financial assistance toward expenses incurred while in residence, including rent, lost income, and childcare. Fellows are chosen by anonymous admissions panels of professionals in each discipline on the single criterion of artistic excellence. The application for this season opens January 15, 2027; artists may apply once every 24 months and only for the upcoming deadline.
eligibility
Artists working in visual arts, architecture, film/video, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, or theatre, at any stage of practice. Applicants cannot be enrolled in a degree-seeking program during the residency season; doctoral candidates who have finished coursework may apply.
fees
$30 non-refundable processing fee per application; no residency fees.
