Studios at MASS MoCA Residencies, July–December 2027
the opportunity
The Studios at MASS MoCA hosts up to ten artists and writers at a time for two- or four-week residencies on the museum's North Adams campus in the Berkshires, with a private furnished studio available 24/7, housing, an optional studio visit with a MASS MoCA or guest curator, and optional open studios and resident presentations. This general application covers residencies between July and December 2027 and is the only route to financial aid and the fully funded fellowships: general fellowships with no geographic or demographic limits, fellowships for Black or Indigenous artists and writers, an August family fellowship for parent-artists, and partner fellowships for alumni of YoungArts, Lincoln City, Art+Everywhere, and a list of MFA programs. Artists requesting aid typically pay $0–$450 per week. A curatorial jury reviews applications; the previous year's panel is posted on the Assets for Artists site. The program has hosted more than 1,000 residents since 2015.
eligibility
Artists at all career stages, income levels, and locations, primarily visual artists (painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video/new media, fiber, printmaking) and writers in all literary disciplines. Dancers, musicians, and performers are discouraged because studios are not sound-proofed. Partners and children cannot be accommodated outside the August family fellowship.
fees
No application fee; residency fees are $0–$450 per week with financial aid, or fully covered by a fellowship
Applications happen on The Studios at MASS MoCA's website. Seeke reviews and indexes the listing but does not accept applications.
