Black Rock City Honoraria 2027
the opportunity
Burning Man Arts partially funds roughly 75 sculptural installations a year for the open playa at Black Rock City, from an annual art-grant budget of $1.45 million shared with the Temple Grant. The program funds physical, interactive, three-dimensional work that stands on its own; it does not fund performance, workshops, amplified sound, domes or prefab structures, murals or 2D work, theme camps, or mutant vehicles. Applying starts with a Letter of Intent; selected applicants are then asked for a full proposal with a detailed budget, and grants typically cover 40–60% of a project's total cost. Honorarium artists commit to mandatory meetings and firm build deadlines. The 2027 Letter of Intent opens October 1, 2026.
eligibility
Individuals, artist collectives or groups, and established 501(c)(3) organizations. Prior attendance at Burning Man is recommended but not required. Proposals must be complete, with a thorough budget and descriptive images.
