Artists in Residence 2027–2028
Casa de Velázquez
You should apply if you're an artist of any nationality, 18 or older, who speaks good French and has a project to develop in Spain or Portugal.
About
The Casa de Velázquez, the French Academy in Madrid, selects twelve artists for a twelve-month paid residency from September 1, 2027 to August 31, 2028, with on-site housing and an individual studio from mid-September to late July. Residents receive a monthly stipend set by the board (in 2026–27 it was €3,600 for housed artists and €4,600 for those living off-site), can apply to a production fund, and take part in the academy's exhibitions and events with support from its director of artistic studies. Applicants declare a main discipline among drawing, printmaking, sculpture, painting, architecture, composition, choreography, photography, and film and video, and submit a specific project for creative work in the Iberian Peninsula through the online portal. Shortlisted artists interview in French in Paris.
Eligibility
Artists of any nationality, 18 or older, who are recent graduates and/or have a significant body of work. A good command of French is required: the application and interview are in French. European applicants must show affiliation to an artist or author scheme.
Applications happen on Casa de Velázquez's website. Seeke reviews and indexes the listing but does not accept applications.
