About
Pilchuck Glass School's Emerging Artist in Residence program, running since 1992, supports artists working with glass who are at a transition point: leaving academia for a studio practice, taking up a new medium, or starting a new body of work. It is an independent, full-time residency on the Stanwood, Washington campus with access to kiln-working, coldworking, printmaking, flameworking, and mixed-media studios (hot glass is not included), critical and technical feedback from visiting curators and the Artistic Director, and field trips. Each resident receives a $2,000 stipend and travel reimbursement, a private room with shared bath, and shared open studio and cooking space; materials, instruction, and food are not provided. The cohort is chosen by a jury and partner organizations, with designated spots funded for a BIPOC artist, a Ukraine Glass Prize awardee, and a Norwegian artist selected by Norwegian Crafts. Applications for the 2027 program open September 22 and close October 30, 2026, with notifications December 18.

Artists from anywhere in the world working with glass who submit a specific project proposal for their time on campus and can participate full-time and take part in communal studio responsibilities.
