IDOT National Trail Rest Area Public Art RFQ
Illinois Capital Development Board Art-in-Architecture
You should apply if you're a professional artist or artist-led team living and working in Illinois.
About
The Illinois Capital Development Board's Art-in-Architecture Program is seeking Illinois artists to make permanent artwork for the rebuilt Illinois Department of Transportation National Trail Rest Area in Effingham County. The commission covers two installations for the large bowtie-shaped walls flanking the lobby, drawing on the history of the National Trail, the first federally funded interstate road. Any medium is allowed, but the work must be removable from the walls. The budget is $31,000 and covers design, materials, fabrication and installation. The Fine Arts Review Committee picks at least three semi-finalists from the portfolios, and each is paid $1,000 to develop a site-specific proposal before the winner is chosen. Portfolios are sent by email.
Eligibility
Professional artists, artisans or artist-led teams who live and work in Illinois; every team member must be from Illinois. Faculty and staff of IDOT are not eligible.
