Open AIR Montana Place-Based Residencies 2027/28
Open AIR Montana
You should apply if you're an artist of any discipline who wants a funded, place-based residency in Montana and can cover travel.
About
Open AIR places artists in four to six week residencies at sites across Montana, including a botanical garden, a library, a mansion, a lake biostation and a remote wilderness station, between June 2027 and April 2028. Each artist gets studio space, housing if coming from out of town, community engagement and professional development opportunities, website promotion, and a stipend of $35 per day. Residents join weekly check-ins, share their process and contribute work to the Open AIR collection. Some sites are reserved for Indigenous artists. Applicants complete an online form with work samples and statements, and finalists take part in a phone interview. Participation itself is free, though artists cover travel and food.
Eligibility
Artists of all disciplines living and working in the United States or abroad, aged 18 or older. Emerging, mid-career and established artists are encouraged, and Indigenous artists and other underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applications happen on Open AIR Montana's website. Seeke reviews and indexes the listing but does not accept applications.
