About

The Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program awards rent-free, non-living studio space to 17 visual artists for year-long residencies in DUMBO, Brooklyn, running from September 2027 to August 2028. Studios have freight elevator access, high ceilings and 24-hour access, with shared kitchen, slop sinks and restrooms. A professional jury selects artists on merit. Residents spend at least 20 hours a week in the studio, help plan the spring open studios event, maintain the communal spaces and file reports at six and twelve months. The program gives no stipend, materials or housing. The application is available on SlideRoom from December 15, 2026 and closes January 14, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern, with five images and a statement of need. Awardees hear in June.

Eligibility

Professional visual artists aged 21 or older who live in the US, or US citizens and permanent residents living abroad. Applicants cannot be enrolled in a degree program, be in another residency, or keep a separate studio during the term; work with heavy noise, machinery, fumes or fire risk is not permitted.

Applications happen on Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program's website. Seeke reviews and indexes the listing but does not accept applications.
