About
The City of St. Catharines, Ontario is commissioning A Love Letter to a City, a large-scale mural for its 150th anniversary that explores the city's past, present and future. The wall is the north-west facade of the Ontario Street Parking Garage downtown, about 170 feet wide and 44 feet high with circular ventilation openings the design must work with. The total budget is $50,000 CAD, covering artist and assistant fees, materials, equipment, permits, insurance and protective coatings. Stage one asks only for a statement of interest and portfolio. Shortlisted artists are paid a $1,500 CAD honorarium to develop concepts, including the square footage they propose to cover. Applications go through an online form by November 22.
