The Unexpected Surface
Idaho Art Gallery
You should apply if you're an artist 18 or older, anywhere in the U.S., making 2D or 3D work from unconventional materials.
About
Idaho Art Gallery in downtown Boise is assembling The Unexpected Surface, a group show of work made on or from unconventional materials: reclaimed wood, metal, cardboard, books, maps, sheet music, fabric, packaging and found objects, from refined mixed media to bold assemblage and sculpture. About 10–15 artists will be chosen for creativity, craftsmanship, originality and fit with the theme, with one to three works each. Notifications go out by November 30, and the show runs January 5–30, 2027. Work is for sale, with the gallery taking 50%, and may appear in gallery promotion.
Eligibility
Open to local and national artists 18 and older, individuals or teams. Work must be materially innovative, up to 48 inches on the longest side, completed in the last six months, and not previously exhibited or posted online. No AI-generated or copied work. Out-of-area artists ship to the gallery; it pays return shipping.
