Visual Arts Residency: Sounding Like a Mountain 2027
Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity
You should apply if you're a visual artist aged 18 or over, anywhere, with post-secondary training or equivalent experience.
About
Banff Centre's five-week faculty-led visual arts residency, May 17 to June 18, 2027, invites projects about how places sing, how memory persists in vibration and how listening to land can reshape ethical and political relations, drawing on acoustic ecology. Artists get an individual studio with shared production facilities and technician support, one-to-one mentorship and studio visits, seminars and workshops, a geological walk and open studios. Faculty include Xenia Benivolski, Elina Waage Mikalsen and Kathryn Yusoff. Applicants submit a resume, artist statement, project proposal, resource requests and portfolio through SlideRoom; a panel selects on merit, feasibility and relevance to the theme. Fees include a campus bedroom and all meals.
Eligibility
Individual artists or duos at any career stage, 18 or older, with post-secondary visual arts training or equivalent peer-recognized experience including traditional knowledge. Must attend all five weeks. Domestic and international applicants welcome; international participants need a Canadian visitor visa.
