About
The American-Scandinavian Foundation funds Americans pursuing study, research or creative arts projects in the Nordic region: Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sápmi and Sweden. Year-long fellowships are worth up to $23,000 and short-term awards of one to three months up to $5,000; in 2026 the Foundation made 31 awards totalling about $277,000. Applicants submit the ASF application form with a defined project description and statement, three letters of recommendation, and confirmation of an affiliation with a host institution in the Nordic country. Projects may not begin before April 15.
Eligibility
United States citizens or permanent residents. Priority goes to graduate students doing dissertation research, but academic professionals and creative artists with a defined project are eligible. An institutional affiliation in the host country is required, and ASF does not ordinarily fund art residency programs.
