About
A spring hot-shop residency at Pilchuck Glass School for BIPOC artists working in glass, run with Better Together, the event series founded by Cedric Mitchell and Corey Pemberton of Crafting the Future, and with Hilltop Artists, whose alumni serve as paid assistants. A juried cohort of professional artists lives on Pilchuck's campus in Stanwood, Washington and works in the historic hot shop, each with designated space to store supplies and develop projects; the 2026 residency ran May 3–13. Housing, meals, a per diem, clear furnace glass, and 100% of qualifying travel are covered; artists bring their own color and specialty glass. An independent jury of established artists working with Better Together selects participants. Applications for the 2027 program open September 22 and close October 30, 2026, with notifications December 18.
Eligibility
Artists who identify as BIPOC, are 18 or older, live and work in the United States, and have at least 2–3 years of experience working in glass, with strong communication skills and the ability to work in a cohort.
