Bicentennial Gateway Public Artwork RFQ
City of Bloomington
You should apply if you're a professional artist or team based in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky or Illinois who makes large-scale public work.
About
The City of Bloomington, Indiana, through its Parks and Recreation and Economic and Sustainable Development departments, is commissioning a permanent public artwork for the Bicentennial Gateway in Miller-Showers Park, the city's northern entrance between College Avenue and Walnut Street. The total budget is $125,000, covering design, engineering, fabrication, installation and lighting. This first stage asks for qualifications only: up to four past projects with images, a letter of interest, a CV and three references, submitted through the city's CiviForm portal. A panel of city staff, structural engineers and Bloomington Arts Commission members will pick five semi-finalists, each paid a $1,500 honorarium to develop a site-specific proposal after a site visit. One artist or team is chosen in May 2027, with fabrication and installation planned for summer and fall 2027.
Eligibility
Professional artists and artist teams aged 18 or older who live in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky or Illinois and are authorized to work in the U.S. Full-time degree-seeking students, selection committee members and their families, and artists with an active Bloomington public art commission in the past six months are excluded.
