Friday Harbor Laboratories Spring 2027 Artist in Residence
Friday Harbor Laboratories
You should apply if you're a visual artist making ocean or environmental work who wants a studio and lodging among marine scientists.
About
Friday Harbor Laboratories, a University of Washington marine biological preserve, offers artist in residence fellowships for visual artists whose projects connect to marine science or the environment. Residents stay one to three months in a campus cottage at no charge and get exclusive use of the Macfarlane Art Studio, about 15 by 25 feet with natural light. They also receive honoraria toward travel and food costs, and share their work with the student and researcher community on campus. December 1 is the application deadline for spring residencies, which run March to May 2027. Applicants send a statement of 100 to 1,000 words on their project and how they will contribute.
Eligibility
Open to visual artists whose projects have a notable connection to marine sciences or the environment. Fellows commit to the residency period within two weeks of acceptance, and pets are not allowed on campus.
Applications happen on Friday Harbor Laboratories's website. Seeke reviews and indexes the listing but does not accept applications.
