About

Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison, Wisconsin invites proposals for temporary, large-scale, light-based artwork for GLEAM, a public art exhibition across a 16-acre garden and a tropical conservatory. The 2027 theme favors immersive, interactive and kinetic work that creates delight and energizes the landscape with illuminated motion. GLEAM is open to the public from August 28 to October 23, 2027. Proposal budgets run from $5,000 to $30,000 and include the artist honorarium, materials, transport and installation. Applicants download a template and send one combined PDF of the proposal, sketches, work samples and resume through the web form. An optional consultation with the curatorial team runs November 18 to December 17.

Eligibility

Local, regional and international artists, collectives, architects and lighting designers. Prior experience with illuminated art, projections or lighting design, preferably outdoors, is required. International budgets must cover local preparators at $50 per person per hour.
