Newberry Library Artist-in-Residence Fellowships 2027-28
Newberry Library
You should apply if you're an artist or writer whose project needs research in the Newberry Library's collection.
About
The Newberry Library's Artist-in-Residence program funds artists and writers to spend one month researching in its collection for a creative project. Awardees receive a $3,000 stipend and a research carrel, but no studio space or housing, and many art materials are not allowed in residency spaces. The residency can be taken at any point in a 15-month window from June of the award year. Applications go through SlideRoom and include a project abstract, a 1,000-word description, a list of materials to consult, one reference and up to three portfolio files. The 2027-28 portal opened October 5, 2026.
Eligibility
Any artist or writer, with no degree requirement and no residency restriction, whose project requires research in the Newberry collection; fine artists, illustrators, photographers, performers, authors and filmmakers qualify.
Applications happen on Newberry Library's website. Seeke reviews and indexes the listing but does not accept applications.
