The Adachi UKIYOE Award 2026
The Adachi Foundation for the Preservation of Woodcut Printing
You should apply if you're 15 or older, make flat hand-drawn or digital artwork, and can join woodcut production meetings in person or online.
About
The Adachi Foundation seeks artists to become eshi, the designers behind contemporary ukiyo-e woodcuts. Applicants submit three to five images of previous work. The Grand Prize (JPY 300,000) and Excellence Award (JPY 150,000) winners each work with Adachi's carvers and printers to turn their own design into a traditional woodcut and receive a copy of the finished print. An Honorable Mention carries JPY 50,000. Applications are made through an online form.
Eligibility
Open to individual artists aged 15 or older, of any nationality, genre or career stage; applicants under 18 need parental or guardian consent. Winners must take part in ongoing meetings with the artisans and in woodcut production, which can be attended online. Submitted works must be flat, made by hand or digitally; photographs, prints and three-dimensional works are not accepted.
Applications happen on The Adachi Foundation for the Preservation of Woodcut Printing's website. Seeke reviews and indexes the listing but does not accept applications.
